About Us
George’s Vineyard began with a dream—and a lot of hard work. In March 2002, Phillip and Patricia Gounaikis opened the doors with a simple goal: create a place where the Northfield community could come together over great food and feel right at home. But the story behind the
restaurant stretches back decades.
Phillip grew up in the pizza business, learning the craft from his father, George F. Gounaikis—the very man whose name the restaurant proudly carries. With over 35 years of experience, Phillip developed not only his skills but a deep appreciation for quality, consistency, and treating every guest like family. Patti’s experience is just as extensive; she began working in the family restaurant business at just 15 years old and continued to build her expertise over the years.
After years of working in family restaurants, Phillip and Patti decided to open their own restaurant. What started as a small family venture quickly grew into a beloved gathering place where celebrations happen, traditions are formed, and neighbors become friends. Offering a variety of menu items: from handcrafted pizzas and classic pastas to gyros, chicken, and fresh salads, George’s Vineyard has become a mainstay in Northfield.
Today, that same spirit lives on through Stephen and his family, proudly continuing the tradition as a third-generation family business. While much has changed over the years, the heart of George’s Vineyard remains the same: family, community, and food made with care. Our daily lunch menu, served from 11 AM to 3 PM, features grinders and personal-sized pizzas—perfect for a quick stop or a familiar midday routine.
We’ve been honored to be voted Best Pizza and Italian Cuisine by the fabulous community and local newspapers, but what truly defines us are the people who walk through our doors. Generations of families, students, and visitors have made us part of their lives—and that means everything to us.
